A staff (pl. staves) was a relatively long, straight rod commonly fashioned from wood. These tools served several purposes. Some types had a ceremonial or ritualistic function, like a staff of office denoting rank, whilst others were specifically crafted for more practical chores, such as a walking stick or shepherd's crook. Staves also made for good improvised weapons with many being specifically made for combat.
One profession that often used staves was priesthood. During the last centuries, priests have often used staves as a means to stay mobile, in rituals and as a symbol of their status.
Some of the Pieces of Eden created by the Isu were fashioned as staves. Many would pass into Human legend such as the Staff of Moses or the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
Staves were often made of wood, but were some somtimes completely or partially made of metal. Staves mainly consist of a wooden stick with at the end, a wooden or metal head. Staves created for battle mainly feature a club at the end, whilst staves made for professions often have a decorated end.
