Harpagos (died 420s BCE) was a Persian Order of the Ancients member who served its leading branch, the Order of Dominion. He operated in Messenia, Greece during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Set in charge of the Order's weapons manufacturing lines in Aipeia, Harpagos became infamous for his contempt and cruelty towards the helot workers.[1] The helot Rhode especially seemed to have caught his eye while she had worked for him, and he did not hesitate to threaten her or command her to be executed for stealing bread. He similarly had no qualms about making the children work as hard as the adults.[2] When Harpagos learned that Rhode had fled her execution at the agora, he took it upon himself to face her. Despite being warned about the misthios Kassandra, Harpagos treated her with the same contempt as the helots and was slain.[2]
