"Diovicos, the living embodiment of War. His fists are deadlier than any weapon."
―Description on Diovicos' statue.[src]

Diovicos was a Gallic gladiator who fought in the Krokodilopolis Arena in Egypt along with his brother, Viridovix, during the mid-1st century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Bayek: "You killed a child called Shadya. Death is the least you deserve."
Diovicos: "The girl by the lighthouse? We didn't kill her, I swear!"
—Diovicos pleading to Bayek after his and Viridovix's defeat, 48 BCE.[src]-[m]

Fighting with brute strength and aggression, Diovicos wielded a set of chains during combat. He and his brother were undefeated for a long time in the Krokodilopolis Arena in Faiyum, Egypt, and were fierce rivals of fellow gladiator Kensa.[1] While not in the arena, Diovicos and Viridovix worked as mercenaries for the Nomarch of Faiyum and member of the Order of the Ancients, Berenike, also known as "the Crocodile".[2]

In 48 BCE, Diovicos and Viridovix were present when Berenike ordered the drowning of Shadya, a girl who had stolen a ledger naming members of the Order.[2] While not directly responsible for the young girl's death, the brothers nonetheless felt guilty for their involvement, leading their benefactor to send a letter to the arena's owner, Felix Martialis, where she stated that the Gallic Brothers had had an attack of conscience and therefore she would no longer require their services.[3]

The Medjay Bayek of Siwa, who was hunting the Crocodile, infiltrated the Krokodilopolis Arena by becoming a gladiator alongside Kensa. The pair climbed in the arena's ranks until they faced the Gallic Brothers in combat, and defeated them. A furious Bayek then interrogated the brothers, accusing them of murdering Shadya, but they insisted that they would never harm an innocent child and revealed that Berenike was both the Crocodile and Shadya's killer. With this information, Bayek spared the brothers and left the arena.[3]

Following this incident, Diovicos and Viridovix would continue to fight in the arena, even trying to reclaim their title against Bayek upon his re-entry in the arena games, though they were defeated once again.[1]
