Oichi (お市; 1547 – 1583) was the younger sister of Oda Nobunaga. In 1567, he arranged for her to marry the warlord Azai Nagamasa, who ruled the province of Ōmi, securing a way to the capital of Kyoto.[1]
Unbeknownst to her brother and his closest followers, Oichi was a member of the Shinbakufu, a secret group conspiring against Nobunaga, where she was known under the aliases of The Wheel and The Mourner.[2] Oichi joined the Shinbakufu to seek revenge against her brother for executing her husband,[3] but became disillusioned with their goals following the Honnō-ji incident which resulted in Nobunaga's death.[2]
Mourning both her brother and husband, Oichi continued to reluctantly serve the Shinbakufu in Ōmi until her identity was discovered by Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke, who ultimately decided to spare her life. Grateful for the opportunity, Oichi abandoned the Shinbakufu to start a new life.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Oichi is a historical character featured in the 2025 video game Assassin's Creed: Shadows. If Canon Mode is disabled, she can potentially become one of Yasuke's love interests, although their romance subplot concludes with them accepting they cannot be together. After an emotional parting, Yasuke wakes up the next morning in a room with a cat, with Oichi nowhere in sight, making it ambiguous as to how their final moments went.
