The River Yamabushi was a Japanese soldier who served under Oda Nobunaga. Along with eight soldiers, he posed as a yamabushi during the late Sengoku period.

Biography[edit | edit source]

After the Tenshō Iga War, Oda Nobunaga commissioned a group of nine soldiers to dress and patrol as yamabushi. Their goal was to find and kill any remaining Igan soldiers who survived the war. However, as the time passed, the soldiers became more deranged and bloodthirsty, killing any innocent along their path.[1]

In 1582, yamabushi Genpaku talked with Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke, who agreed to help him rid the country of these false monks. Following Genpaku's lead, they investigated the stream at Mitarai Valley in Yamato and found a dead body that came upstream. Following the stream, they came across the imposter practicing his kata while surrounded by more corpses. Upon confronting him, they assassinated the imposter and retrieved the bow, Susanoo's Torrent, from his personal effects.[1]
