Rin was a Japanese woman who lived in Gobō in the Kii Province during the late Sengoku period.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1582, Rin had lived with her grandfather at a hut near Gobō. However, they were attacked by bandits, who killed her grandfather. Feeling defenseless, she pushed herself to protect the villagers of Gobō, especially from the attacks during the winter from the group, the Winter Raiders. She soon came into the contact with the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke, who visited the village and offered their help against the raiders.[1]

Rin was then living in her grandfather's estate until the samurai Yasuke came and visited her. During their visit, Yasuke showcased her archery skills and pushed Rin to practice on her own. Thanking him, Rin gave him an amulet, Discipline's Reward, as a gift.[2] Within the next season, Yasuke came by and met with Rin, who requested his help with a lost horse. Finding the horse, they brought it back to her home. There, he began aiding her into becoming its new owner and teaching her how to ride. After a friendly race to a nearby waterfall, Yasuke took his leave after Rin named the horse Ite.[3]

Yasuke later came by the following season and found Rin fighting against a group of bandits. Ultimately, they were killed while Yasuke checked in on Rin. While catching up, Rin noticed a bracelet belonged to a merchant near Kumano Hongū Taisha. Together, they rode there and even made a race of it. Arriving in Hongū, they met the merchant and gave him his bracelet. Thankful, he gave them onigiri as a reward. They then spent the day together and found time for a drawing. At the end of the day, Yasuke thanked her for a great time before leaving on good terms as friends.[4]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

She is one of Yasuke's love interests, but only if canon mode is off. The quest can end with both Rin and Yasuke having a kiss and starting a relationship before they parted ways. If Yasuke falls in love with another character, Rin will disappear and leave a note of anguish for Yasuke.[5]
