Shishimaru (died 1582), also known as The Swordsman, was a Japanese samurai who was a part of former Bessho clan Commander Genzaburo's unit.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1582, having learned of Bessho Harumasa's death and Koshiro's involvement,[1] his former commander Genzaburo sent Shishimaru and his fellow officers to kill Koshiro at Kyokaiji Temple. Although they failed to kill him, they soon split off and awaited their next orders. However, their attacks were noticed by Harumasa's killer and Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe, who promised to Koshiro to hunt down his attackers.[2]

Shishimaru found himself at the bridge at Nagusano Falls, but his bloodlust led him to kill peasants who were not loyal to the Bessho clan and then challenge and rob any wanderers. Genzaburo later sent a threat for him to halt his incursions. Soon, Naoe managed to find him, ready to fight while surrounded by the bodies of his victims. Upon confrontation, Shishimaru fell to Naoe, who recovered both the threat, which detailed fellow soldier Yasokichi's location, and the ōdachi Inari's Bounty, from his personal effects.[2]
