Tomiko's Homestead

Tomiko's Homestead was the personal residence of the Japanese farmer Tomiko, located within the Katano Foothills region of Izumi Settsu. It later became the headquarters of the Kakushiba ikki, the league founded by Tomiko's ally Fujibayashi Naoe.

History[edit | edit source]

The residence was a farm belong to Tomiko's family during the 16th century. Following her parents' death during the civil war between the Japanese clans, Tomiko inherited the homestead and slowly rebuilt it.[1] On 30 September 1581, the shinobi Fujibayashi Nagato, who was a friend of Tomiko's family, came to the homestead in the midst of Oda Nobunaga's invasion of Iga. He brought his daughter Naoe on his horse in the hope that Tomiko could treat Naoe's injuries, notwithstanding the fact that he himself was also injured after being shot in the back with an arrow. Tomiko took both of them in and treated their injuries.[2]

After Naoe woke up, she left the homestead in order to pursue a masked samurai who had stolen a box she had been tasked to retrieve. Nagato himself woke up much later, and also left Tomiko's homestead in order to assist his daughter. Both of them failed to return as Nagato was subsequently killed while Naoe was heavily wounded by the masked samurai's compatriots,[2] and was taken in by the monk Sorin and his apprentice Junjiro, who nursed her back to health.[3]

A few months later, a fully healed Naoe returned to the homestead, informing Tomiko of her father's death and showing her a drawing she had made of her father's killers, whom she referred to as "the Onryo". Fully understanding and empathizing with Naoe's losses, Tomiko gave her full control of the land, allowing her to establish a hideout to pursue the masked men.[1]

In time, the homestead grew into a steady community as Naoe brought her various allies to live on the land, including the samurai Yasuke following the Honnō-ji incident in June 1582. After Naoe, Yasuke, Tomiko, and Junjiro founded their own league called the Kakushiba ikki to fight against "the Onryo" and other threats to Japan, the homestead became the league's headquarters.[4]

Customization[edit | edit source]

Naoe and Yasuke can customize the hideout by renovating acquired buildings and rearranging the layout and decorations to their aesthetic tastes. Doing so can provide them with various advantages in combat or for the community that lived on the grounds.
