Animus Hub's menu

The Animus Hub is the interface for the hacked[1] Animus EGO used to relive the memories of the samurai Yasuke and the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe during Sengoku era Japan. After the hack, the user had access to four different sections: Memories, Projects, Exchange, and Vault.[2]

Memories[edit | edit source]

The Memories section featured a timeline and allowed access to a few other individuals' memories, besides the aforementioned Naoe and Yasuke. Other years were marked down without any associated memory streams,[2] though they did align with the memory start dates of other known Animus hosts' memories.

Projects[edit | edit source]

The Projects section contained missions meant to achieve greater synchronization and correct the simulation in many small ways, such as by eliminating anomalies. These missions rewarded data fragments that could be redeemed for keys to be spent in the Exchange section, decryption of files in the Vault section, as well as for mods that would add gold and gear to the simulation for Naoe and Yasuke to use.[2]

Exchange[edit | edit source]

The symbol for the Exchange section

The Exchange section allowed the user to trade in keys, currency collected both through the Projects and inside the memories of Naoe and Yasuke, for various items to be added to the simulation, such as weapons, armor, and outfits for the Kakushiba ikki's members.[2]

Vault[edit | edit source]

The symbol for the Vault section

The Vault section compiled various data files, mimicking the database function existent in other Animi sessions, and was separate from the "Codex" for Yasuke and Naoe's memories. The Vault's files started out encrypted and were decrypted both by completing Projects and by interacting with rifts during the session, with these particular files transcribing conversations with the artificial intelligences known as The Guide and Ego.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Assassin's Creed: Infinity teaser image

The Animus Hub, originally known as "Assassin's Creed: Infinity", was expected to be a separate live-service platform that would host the modern day storyline and span multiple titles, including Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe and Assassin's Creed: Codename Invictus.[3] With the release of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, the Hub was discovered to be an integral part of the game and inaccessible without that particular title.

The platform's conceptual title was first leaked on 7 July 2021 and reported by Bloomberg News,[4] following which Ubisoft acknowledged the leaked project as genuine.[5] During an earnings call in October, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that Infinity would not be a free-to-play title.[6] During Ubisoft Forward's Assassin's Creed showcase for 2022, series Vice President Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté clarified that Infinity would instead be a hub for all future series entries as a starting point for players and would facilitate multiplayer in the future. Infinity would operate as an in-universe Animus for players to operate as they navigated different time periods.[7] Two years later, in a mid-June 2024 interview, Côté revealed that the platform had been renamed to "Animus Hub".[8]
