Nitta Koheiji (died 1585) was a Japanese shinobi who served under Nowaki, the personal ambusher of the Japanese Templar Kimura Yukari, in Awaji during the late Sengoku period.
Biography[edit | edit source]
A vicious individual with a phobia of poultry, Nitta Koheiji was a shinobi who served under Nowaki, one of Kimura Yukari's three taishō (大将, lit. "general").[1] In 1585, following Yukari's downfall at Iwaya Castle,[2] Koheiji and his fellow shinobi Inoue Yonekichi and Ishida Shota stationed themselves at a rundown residence on the Trail of Eshima. From his own investigation, he noted two fellow shinobi near Kannoji Temple, planned to kill one of Yasuhira's spies at Kamaguchi Village, and aimed to leave Awaji.[1]
However, the trio were discovered by the Kakushiba ikki member and Igan kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe, who was helping Hattori Hanzō's ally Konatsu in eliminating the last Sanzoku Ippa operatives. Naoe then promptly assassinated Koheiji, along with Shota and Yonekichi, and then acquired his note and the spare bō The Knocker from his personal effects.[1]
