Richo (died 1582) was a Japanese criminal and a member of a child-abduction ring located in Osaka.
Biography[edit | edit source]
A child kidnapper, Richo worked with Shucho and Mucho in following their leader Kacho's instructions to steal children from wealthy businesspeople in order to garner control of their trade. Richo kidnapped a child from a sandal saleswoman and kept her captive in a hut near Noda Village.[1]
In 1582, the Igan kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe found a note during a game of collecting paper butterflies tasked by a local woman. The note detailed Richo's success in capturing the child and waiting for the ransom at a burnt well near the Temple of Osaka. Naoe traveled there and eavesdropped on farmers talking about a woman walking back and forth from the nearby bamboo grove.[1]
Investigating, Naoe headed to the grove and found Richo guarding the child trapped within the hut. She promptly assassinated Richo and acquired the tantō The Dog-Ear from her personal effects. Afterwards, Naoe escorted the girl safely back to her mother.[1]
