Kamakichi (died 1582), also known as The Spy, was a Japanese samurai and bounty hunter who worked for a group that served Wada Koretake. After Koretake's death, he and his fellow bounty hunters moved across to Kii to continue their criminal activities.
Biography[edit | edit source]
By 1582, Kamakichi and his fellow bounty hunters worked with Shinbakufu member Wada Koretake under his discretion.[1] After Koretake fell at the hands of Kyonyo and the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe,[2] Kamakichi and his associates moved to Kii to continue their criminal activity. However, when Kyonyo arrived with his remaining party of the Ikkō-ikki in Kii, the bounty hunters saw a moment for revenge for Koretake.[1]
However, Kamakichi ignored fellow bounty hunter Inumaru's call for ambush and continued his search for him at Saika. Stationed at an abandoned house, he learned of Kyonyo's father Kennyo tasking Kakushiba ikki members Naoe and Yasuke to safeguard his son. He also learned that Kyonyo had a contact with someone near the Monk Houses.[1]
Prowling the village of Saika, Kamakichi kept a close eye on the people to overhear any news on Kyonyo. However, Naoe and Yasuke managed to find him skulking around and thus assassinated Kamakichi. They then acquired an unsent letter to his leader Tsuchi-Gumo about Kyonyo's location and the kusarigama Whip of the Deserter from Kamakichi's personal effects.[1]
