Masatoshi Nakahara (中原 正利; died 1582) was a Japanese samurai and general who served under Oda Nobunaga.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1582, Nakahara served under Oda Nobunaga as one of his generals. One of his duties was to inspect the heads of slain enemies; however, he was bribed by rival clans to avoid payments. Shortly after the Honnō-ji incident, he abruptly left his placement with the Oda clan and found a new position under the Akechi clan in Tamba.[1]

Sometime after Nobunaga's death, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's retainer Hori Hidemasa spoke with the Kakushiba ikki member and former Oda retainer Yasuke. Telling him about the various people involved in the Honnō-ji incident, Hidemasa convinced Yasuke to help him find and eliminate all the traitors so they could avenge Nobunaga.[1]

Alongside fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe, Yasuke followed Hidemasa's lead to Kameyama Castle. There, the pair found Nakahara showcasing heads of fallen enemies to his men, and promptly assassinated him. From his personal effects, they retrieved the tantō Warrior's Garden.[1]
