Thaleia the Talon Hand (died 420s BCE) was a mercenary who operated in Greece during the 5th century BCE.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Thaleia was known to wear gloves to cover her finger nails which were sharp as an eagle's talons. There were even times when she would use those nails as weapons, especially as a last resort.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, a bounty was placed on Thaleia, and it was collected by the misthios Kassandra.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Thaleia's name is derived from the Greek word θάλλειν (thállein), meaning "the joyous, the flourishing". It was the name of one of the Muses in Greek mythology who presided over comedy and idyllic poetry.
