The Wakasa Temple was a Seismic Temple that was located in southern Wakasa, Japan during the Sengoku period.
History[edit | edit source]
In 422 BCE, the mercenary Kassandra inherited the immortality-granting Staff of Hermes Trismegistus from her father Pythagoras.[1] Shortly after, the disembodied Isu Aletheia who was bound to it tasked her with using a now-prolonged lifespan to assist in searching for and disabling Pieces of Eden throughout Earth in order to prevent humanity's abuses of them for power.[2] At some point over her millennia of travels,[3] Kassandra ventured to Japan, found the temple within the cave,[4] and left some valuables near the cave mouth to mislead future people from investigating the site any further.[5]
In 1582,[5] the former ashigaru[6] Kane and Kinu came across the keystone and some riddle scrolls pertaining to the temple's doorway, which glowed with glyphs written in an ancient script. Arguing amongst themselves, their noise and recent disrespectful actions in the locale attracted the Igan shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe and samurai Yasuke, who asked them about the door. Explaining their findings, Kane and Kinu agreed to give their scrolls and keystone in exchange for joining the Kakushiba ikki, to which Naoe and Yasuke reluctantly agreed.[5] Using the scrolls, they found the glyphs across Japan and opened the door. Inside, they found the treasures that Kassandra had left behind and a warning note from her but saw nothing further.[7]
Some time later, the Black Crosses Eamon Hathaway and Nirmala landed in Japan seeking the temple, believing it was the fabled complex known as the Observatory. After garnering information from Kane and Kinu, who unwittingly gave them the scrolls and informed them that Yasuke held the keystone, the Templar agents attacked him and stole it, leaving him for dead while they headed to the temple.[3] Upon entering the temple, Nirmala saw nothing that she deemed important, though her more observant mentor noticed a statue of Kassandra, which he promptly destroyed before using the keystone to unlock the temple's secret entrance and venture further inside with his student.[4]
While the Black Crosses traversed through the temple, Nirmala noticed that Naoe and her fellow ally Rufino were following them and initiated combat. Eamon headed further to confirm whether they found the Observatory but instead came across a familiar artifact and concluded it was another temple. Angered, he returned to Nirmala in time to see her lose a duel against Naoe and joined her. Besting the shinobi, Eamon nearly executed her until Yasuke came and saved her, surprising them all. Seizing the chance, Nirmala almost killed Naoe, but Rufino managed to shoot her, giving Naoe an opening to fatally stab Nirmala.[4]
Eamon held a dying Nirmala, mourning her lost potential, before donning his helm and fighting Naoe and Yasuke, though he also ultimately lost. Bleeding out, he berated the pair for seemingly not knowing about the covert war they had stepped into before succumbing to his wounds. Naoe and Yasuke retraced Eamon's steps and saw the artifact, and while Naoe was almost tempted to disturb it, they agreed that to heed Kass
Yasuke heeded
After looking at the artifact, Yasuke stated that they should leave it. Leaving the temple, Naoe, Yasuke, and Rufino saw Kane and Kinu had removed most of the treasure from it. Before leaving, Yasuke broke the keystone and threw the pieces back inside the temple while its door locked, ensuring that no one would be able to access it.[4]
