Howdy howdy[edit source]
Since I don’t think anyone has officially reached out to you, I’m taking it upon myself to show our appreciation for your hard work. Close to 300 significant edits in less than 2 weeks is awesome. If you aren't already a member, I suggest joining our discord which should be accessible through the sidebar. A good number of us use it to coordinate better or discuss certain topics on a platform that facilitates it better than these talkpages.
But now that the pleasantries are out of the way, on to brass tacks. I notice that some of your edits have included trivia point sections. We’ve recently decided to try to phase these out in favor for wither working the content into the main body paragraphs or if it is out-of-universe or character concept like etymology into behind the scenes sections. Trivia sections are still valid but are now meant to be temporary placeholders for such information or sections that edits who are possibly intimidated by larger articles to put their content. Of course we also have been kind of lax dealing with these sections especially on older character pages that have really large trivia sections.
Anyways great to have you and feel free to contact any of us on the admin team if you have any questions. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 03:36, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Talk pages[edit source]
Hello Batfan13,
Just want to likewise extend another welcome and a thank you for all your work on the Order of the Ancients pages. Just a quick note for the future, when you use a talk page, whether yours or someone else's, it's best to sign off on your posts. We can typically see who last edited a talk page through its "History" drop-down menu section or watching the "Recent Activity" feed, but it's faster if everyone signs their name where possible. You can do that by using 4 tilde marks, "~~~~", at the end of whatever you write. I hope you enjoy your stay and wish you many more productive edits. Cheers, – Darman (talk) 15:55, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Reporting on Cent[edit source]
I see your change at Reporting on Cent. I also see you changed the description in the infobox. You know that that description is the ingame description of the mission itself right? As far as I know, the description field of the infobox is to display the ingame description, not make up one of our own. Kennyannydenny (talk) 09:53, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- I've asked Sol Pacificus about the description field as I want to be sure i'm doing the correct thing. Kennyannydenny (talk) 09:59, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response! I wouldn't have mind if it stayed that way until Sol responded, but we can always change it back to what you made of the description if it turns out it's fine not using ingame descriptions there. If I get a response from Sol, i'll let you know. Kennyannydenny (talk) 09:36, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Metadata security[edit source]
Hello again,Batfan13,
I'm not sure if you're aware, but the metadata on every image you've uploaded so far looks to have your full name still attached to them. If that's a concern for you because of online safety, you might want to find a way to scrub that in future files you post here. Just thought I'd give you a heads up on the matter. – Darman (talk) 04:10, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Discord?[edit source]
Hello, I was wondering if you happen to have joined our Discord server? There's a regular user on our server named Bat_Creature, and I'm curious if you and this user is one and the same. :) Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 05:52, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- It's a great thing we asked then! You're welcome to join our server any time by the way. :) Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 23:44, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Weapon rollbacks[edit source]
What is your reasoning for undoing all of those? Lacrossedeamon (talk) 18:07, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- RE: the new stats are for the weapons at max upgrade which follows the standard set by weapon stats on articles from previous games like Odyssey and Origins. In the future if you have concerns about a series of edits like this please reach out first beforehand. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 18:58, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- RE:RE: No worries. I think the disconnect comes from Odyssey but that's because the weapons in Odyssey can appear as different tiers but are locked while Valhalla you can actually upgrade the tier level. Also I didn't realize you had reached out to Nstav but next time wait for a response before continuing. Otherwise your concerns were valid so good on you for that. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 19:53, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
New hub for editors[edit source]
Hey Batfan13!
I wanted to let you know I made a hub for the editors, so we can see what needs to be done and talk to each other about it.
It's over on Assassin's Creed Wiki:Target board. - Soranin (talk) 16:02, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Proofreading resources articles[edit source]
Hello Batfan, I just proofread a few of your recent articles on resources, and there were a few mistakes I noticed which I hope you don't mind me pointing out.
First, their appearances in the games are not "mentioned only" if they are collectible items into the inventory. This is especially so for Project Legacy, which is a text-based game. Just like if a character handled flax or saffron in a novel, you wouldn't call it just a mention, if the player handles flax and saffron in the game by collecting them then creating items with them, they are also not just mere mentions; they have made actual appearances.
Apart from this, please make sure to avoid this kind of wording in the future:
"During the Peloponnesian War in southwestern Elis, Greece. . ."
"During the Renaissance in Florence, Italy. . ."
"During the early 16th century in Rome, Italy. . ."
You don't add "in [place]" after "during [time period]". This phrasing is very awkward and essentially turns the sentence into a run-on. Part of it is because it's too many prepositions stacked on top of one another in a subordinating clause and part of it is I think the word during doesn't support that syntax. It's basically not correct syntax. I've also explained this to other editors in the past, but your writing doesn't have to be so formulaic.
In fact, you will write better if you don't. Try to write naturally with what content you have in mind, rather than making rote lists of appearances. You aren't always required to name the war happening in the background during the events of Odyssey (it might not always be relevant). Yes, you collect flax and saffron while playing as Francesco Vecellio, but is the collection of flax specific to Vecellio and his team or can we infer that it's just a general thing the Italian Assassins did? Well, the collection of saffron is a bit more particular to Tessa Varzi since she was a poison expert, so in my revision, I decided to focus on that a little more. These are some examples of how to naturalize writing more. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 20:54, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- Batfan, I've already asked you to avoid this kind of wording "During the late 880s in West Francia..." It's syntactically incorrect and very awkward. :-/ Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 03:02, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
Unsourced info in "Peony"[edit source]
Hello Batfan, I just wanted to check quickly with you:
In Chinese history, peony exhibitions are held and cultivated annually in the ancient city of Luoyang.
Do you know where this line's information is from? It needs as a citation. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 21:39, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Re: medal reset[edit source]
I’m not tracking a reset on any of the other medal. The most likely culprit is that that medal tracks days by UTC so it is possible for you to edit everyday your local time but if you edit early one day and late the next day its possible for you to actually miss a day in UTC and that resets your counter. I’ve had it happen for me. Looking through your contributions page it looks like on the 21st you only edited your own profile which might not count for the medal. Looks like we’ve got you for another year. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 02:59, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
More proofreading[edit source]
Batfan, I've been taking a closer look at your writing again lately for some Valhalla locations.
- Do you think you can stop beginning sentences with the phrase "Through her travels..." Most of the time, you're not using that phrase correctly, and in any case usually it should be "Throughout her travels...". It's quite complicated to explain how you're using it incorrectly, but it has to do with the fact you're typically following that phrase with momentary, singular, concrete actions that occupy a timeframe too short for the word "throughout".
- I've told many editors about this before too, but you don't always have to introduce Eivor as "the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan". That's long, unwieldy, and not always necessary. Change this up depending on which is the most concise for the sentence and what context about her background is needed.
- Please stop breaking whole terms like Raven Clan into two different links like this, Raven Clan. This goes against our wiki's conventional standard. If you see other editors doing this as well, please correct it. The link should just be Raven Clan.
- You don't have to describe every minute action, like every movement of her hands, that Eivor does when she is in a place. Try to summarize it together naturally.
- Articles should primarily be written from the perspective of their subject. If you are writing about a location, the writing shouldn't be centered around the protagonist. Sometimes, this is unavoidable because all we know about the location is from the perspective of the protagonist, but there should still be ways to write about it from a more general point-of-view.
- Character names should be substituted with pronouns if they are being mentioned repeatedly in a paragraph. For example, instead of "Eivor... Eivor... Eivor...", it should be "Eivor... she... she...".
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 00:00, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
Congrats[edit source]
Just want to extend my congratulations to you for earning 3,450 badge points and making it into the Top 20 on the achievements leaderboard! Here's to more edits, and perhaps you'll climb even higher in the ranks. Darman (talk) 01:25, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- Congratulations again, 5 months later, on reaching 5,500 points, entering the Top 15 in the leaderboard, but most importantly, becoming one of the 12 people (I think, hover text used to have a counter) who have the "Grand Master" badge! Having worked to earn it myself, I know it can be a long task, but you did it. – Darman (talk) 14:40, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
Infoboxes for countries[edit source]
So for articles about countries, we don't use the location infobox, we use either the country infobox or the regime infobox. The country infobox is for articles about a broad, generalized "civilization" or nation spanning multiple regimes and taking on the form of many different states throughout history. (e.g. Egypt, Greece, China, India). The regime infobox is for specific governments and/or specific states of a "civilization". (e.g. Roman Republic, Roman Empire, Republic of China, Tang dynasty, Ptolemaic Kingdom, United Kingdom, etc.). For those modern states which arose from settler colonialism, like the United States of America, the Bahamas, Canada, Australia etc. we use the regime infobox. These nations are more recent creations, with little correspondence to historic nations, and generally have not shifted between many different forms of statehood beyond decolonization.
For South Africa, I corrected it to being about the Republic of South Africa, but if events about it in Magus Conspiracy take place in the 19th century, should it be the Cape Colony instead? Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 02:59, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Conspiracies redlink roundup[edit source]
Hey Batfan!
So, I saw you were doing work on Conspiracies stuff and I took the time to round up what redlinks we still have for that over at the Target board. If you want to tackle them I'll love you forever feel free :) - Soranin (talk) 02:13, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Overuse of some words[edit source]
Hello Batfan, I've been proofreading the articles you write, and there are a few mistakes that keep on recurring. I notice you have a tendency to both overuse the word soon in contexts where it is either unnecessary, where the word later should be used instead, or where it shouldn't be used at all. Likewise, you misuse the word as very often. When you join two events with as, they are supposed to be occurring concurrently with each other. But you have a habit of using as to recount events that follow each other instead, which is incorrect. In the future, could you please be more careful when you write to check that you aren't overusing or misusing these two words? Thanks. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 08:47, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
Batfan, I forgot to mention the other day that I also notice you always misuse the word once when the proper word is when. I'm not sure why this is the case, but please be attentive to this. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 02:40, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
Please refrain from writing articles on religion[edit source]
Hello Batfan, while I appreciate your diligence in helping us fulfill wanted pages, I would like to ask you to refrain from creating articles on religion and other real-world philosophical traditions or political ideologies and instead leave them to others. These are very complex and often sensitive topics which require a lot of precision in writing to ensure accuracy of information, where it can be easy to accidentally phrase something the wrong way and offend someone belonging to a demographic related to the topic. And to be perfectly honest with you, I've noticed that your English language writing still needs a lot of improvement, so I don't think you're ready to tackle these kinds of articles yet. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 17:30, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
Journey to the North Canonicity[edit source]
Is your subpage open for other editors to work on or would you rather have us stick to its talk page and leave it to you to integrate anything brought up there to the subpage proper? Lacrossedeamon (talk) 08:14, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
RE: ACRPG[edit source]
Oh, sorta. It was supposed to release in October to backers who preordered but got delayed. However they released PDFs of handbooks to backers of which I was one. I’m hoping the PDFs are an earlier draft because there are a lot of grammar issues and, factual errors, and possibly even missing content. There’s a lot to discuss in regards to this canonwise and if it is even feasible. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 02:57, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hey there! If you're still interested in helping out with the ACRPG stuff, I'm slowly but surely putting their stuff up on the wiki (with the pre-release template, of course). Something that's already up is the collection of a few modern day files with a bunch of new characters. I admit I could use the help with those... ヾ( ̄▽ ̄) - Soranin (talk) 05:26, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! (づ ̄3 ̄)づ╭❤~ I'm currently working on the other redlinks (over in my sandbox) and I'm making good progress with the memory stuff, so the one other thing I'd appreciate your help with right now are the two related to the Supplementary material here. Though I'm certain they'll be short pages, both "The Assassin Cult and Its Evolution" and "Matthew Renter" are on the list to be made :p - Soranin (talk) 04:32, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Letting you know that besides the ACRPG, I've also just published the memories from the Apocalypse expansion to Brotherhood of Venice. Darman is still to link these, but I've already added what's gonna become a redlink to the target board, if you wanna help. (After all the ACRPG stuff I'm gonna take it easy for a bit ( ̄o ̄) . z Z ) - Soranin (talk) 04:27, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
Superfluous sections[edit source]
As is, a few of the "Personality and traits" and "Behind the scenes" sections feel a bit unnecessary. If the "Personality and traits" section is just going to be "[character] wielded [weapon] when killed by [protagonist]" I don't think it is important enough to include. Likewise "Behind the scenes" sections that only mention whether the character is fictional or historical and what piece of media they are introduced in is unneeded if lacking in extra context like voice actor, differences with historical records, or ambigously/non canonical choices. I don't want to come off as harsh as you are doing good work with new pages but hopefully this lets you focus more on the biography/history/background sections. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 02:57, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
Iga no Monogatari[edit source]
Hey, are you in the AC Wiki discord? Cause if you are, you can just message me and I can send you the hd images I have for the Iga no Monogatari manga over there. I should also have some Shadows stuff proper, too, if I can only remember where it is... My username over there is "Jhonnies (Soranin)". - Soranin (talk) 18:40, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
Shadows pics[edit source]
Just a question after some observation in RecentChanges, why are some of the Shadows pics you've uploaded in the .webp format? I know some artists on ArtStation sometimes upload their images as [filename.webp], but I also know through personal experience that we can change the URL path name to [filename.jpg] and get that format. It's a valid file format, it's just that we don't typically upload them. – Darman (talk) 05:15, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, I thought webp. were fine since it was accepted as an upload. I can replace them though. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for letting me know. Batfan13 (talk) 05:33, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- No, no, they're fine, since as you noted the Upload page does list it as an acceptable file. Nothing's wrong, you don't need to replace them. I was only curious as to why you were using webp because it's so rarely used here. – Darman (talk) 05:45, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
