Neurotransmitters refer to a part of the human brain. They are a network of receptors specifically designed to respond to certain Pieces of Eden allowing the wielder to manipulate a receptive human's actions and behaviours and therefore control them.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
Created by the Isu as part of Project Anthropos, the neurotransmitters ensured the compliance and docility of humanity for centuries. To ensure this compliance, the Apples of Eden were developed with the explicit purpose of manipulating the neurotransmitters.[2]
Eventually, however, humans began to be born without the neurotransmitters in place: the hybrids – the result of Isu-human interbreeding – were not beholden to the manipulative effects of the Pieces of Eden, and so could challenge the rule of their masters.[2] This eventually led to the outbreak of war in 75,010 BCE, with humanity being led by the hybrids Adam and Eve.[3][4][5]
The neurotransmitters would be rediscovered in 2012 by Dr. Yijie Wu and Dr. P. J. Traunero. They found that the neurotransmitters do not respond to any other stimuli and were unable to discern their true purpose in the human body or why humans would evolve the neurotransmitters. The true purpose of the neurotransmitters (alongside any other information regarding humanity's creation) have been kept a secret by the Templars to prevent the inevitable mass hysteria by the public, should the information get out, that would prevent the Templars from furthering their goals.[6][7]
