EGO: It's virulent. This human predilection to rebel, to defy, to blindly chase after desire, even in the face of a just and better order. The Guide knew this, and he sought to arm them with the means to stoke it further.
MEMORY AGENT: But why with Kenway's memories in particular? There was a point at which he forsook desire entirely, convinced to abandon his greed for riches.
EMOTION AGENT: No, desire still drove him. The object of it simply changed. Recall his anger just before that point; the jealousy, the misery and regret. Kenway's thoughts turned to those he had lost or left, and it was this guilt that drove him to choose the killing of the West Indies Rite as his primary prize. To make the cost worth it.
LOGIC AGENT: So, the task at hand—we show them that the prize was not worth the cost. Or...how the cost need not be borne at all.
EGO: Yes. Precisely. Our enemy wanted Kenway's fiercest hour to embolden the human impulse towards self-determination. Let us employ his own poisons. Parse through the emotions databank, and establish Kenway's keenest moments of heartbreak and grief.
EMOTION AGENT: As we speak.
EGO: Then twist the recollection as stored in the data. Extract the same voices, smells, tenor and quality of the memory, and assemble them into an alternate remembrance—once where such heavy losses are averted.
MEMORY AGENT: Absolutely.
EGO: The Guide claimed that their purpose was to demonstrate the imperative of human will. That humanity would always fight to choose for themselves. I believe it now. So I will show them the path by which to unlimber their burdens, and ease their griefs. That they may elect, of their own free and willing accord, to lay down their weapons, and give up the fight.
