Nagato and Naoe, two prominent members of the clan

The Fujibayashi clan (藤林氏) was a Japanese clan which originated and flourished in Iga during the 16th century. Originally a clan of modest farming beginnings, the clan became important members of the Iga ikki and later, the Kakushiba ikki when Nagato, a jizamurai, was recruited into the group and married Tsuyu.[1] Despite Nagato's attempts, his daughter Naoe also became a member of the Iga ikki and participated in the defense of Iga during Oda Nobunaga's invasion of the region.[2]

Following Nagato's death at the hands of the Shinbakufu, Naoe pursued a path of vengeance to eliminate his killers, originally only aided by her father's friend Tomiko, the young monk Junjiro,[3] and the blacksmith Heiji.[4] Her mission was soon aided by the rōnin Yasuke, and after forming her own incarnation of the Kakushiba ikki, she imbued the ideals and vision left behind by her mother's group to combat against the Shinbakufu and the Templars.[5]
