Fight of the Kakushiba Ikki was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description[edit | edit source]
Naoe joins her father Nagato in defending her home.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Naoe and Nagato watched from afar as Oda Nobunaga's army invaded Iga.
- Nagato: He comes. Oda Nobunaga.
Oda and his retainer Yasuke watched on as soldiers poured into the region.
- Naoe: We need a plan. Father, what do we do?
- Nagato: We ride to Aekuni Shrine. Now.
Naoe and Nagato got onto their horses and began riding towards Aekuni.
- Naoe: You're not telling me everything. I can see it on your face. What was in Hattori Hanzo's letter?
- Nagato: The world is at many wars, Naoe. Not just the one Oda Nobunaga fights.
- Naoe: Someone else is coming to Iga?
- Nagato: Yes. But what they want from us, they cannot have.
- Naoe: Then we won't give it to them.
- Nagato: No. We won't.
- Naoe: I know you cannot tell me everything. Father. But I need your trust.
- Nagato: You have it.
- Naoe: Then tell me what to do. I can do it. I can help you!
Soon after, they arrived at the Aekuni Shrine Town, witnessing the destruction unleashed by Nobunaga's army. From afar, an ashigaru soldier fired his teppo at Naoe's horse, causing her to fall off. Regaining her footsteps, she drew her katana and faced off against the soldier. After killing him, she proceeded further into the town to help her fellow Igans. Having cleared the town of soldiers, she regrouped with the shinobi leader Momochi Sandayu, who gave an instruction to one of his men.
- Momochi Sandayu: Twenty of them for every Igan.
Nagato joined them shortly after.
- Nagato: They are not the only ones here.
He handed Sandayu a letter, who gave Nagato a stern look after reading it.
Sandayu angrily crushed the letter and threw it down to the ground.
- Momochi Sandayu: What matters now is defeating Oda.
- Nagato: Oda forces pour in from every direction! The mountains, the tiger mouths—
- Momochi Sandayu: Then I will meet them there! Is that not what we have pledged?
- Nagato: We pledged our oaths to her.
- Momochi Sandayu: And they died with her.
Nagato looked on with regrets while Sandayu turned to look at Naoe, relenting on his position and giving Nagato a nod.
- Momochi Sandayu: Do what you must. I understand.
Sandayu got onto his horse and began riding forward.
- Nagato: Wait!
Sandayu stopped in his tracks.
- Nagato: My heart belongs to Tsuyu. But my blood is Igan. I will get you to Mibuno Castle.
- Naoe: I'm coming with you.
Nagato turned to face his daughter.
- Nagato: No. I need you elsewhere.
He showed Naoe the Hidden Blade on his left wrist, drawing and then withdrew the blade. He then took off the weapon and placed it on Naoe's wrist.
- Nagato: Run to the kofun (tomb) in the mountain. The door will open to this blade. It's a key.
Nagato kneeled down to help Naoe finish wearing it.
- Naoe: What?
- Nagato: Inside the kofun is a box. Protect it with your life.
- Naoe: Father!
- Nagato: You said you want to help? Now is the time. I cannot let Sandayu stand alone. Show me.
Naoe activated the Hidden Blade, drawing and then withdrawing its blade.
- Nagato: Go. I will meet you there.
As Naoe prepared to leave, Nagato took her hand.
- Nagato: Naoe.
He stood up, still holding onto his hand.
- Nagato: The box, it cannot be opened. It cannot be taken! Promise me, plum.
- Naoe: I promise.
Nagato then gave Naoe a pat on her left shoulder.
- Momochi Sandayu: Nagato!
Having said their goodbyes, Nagato got up on his horse and rode away with Sandayu while Naoe focused on her mission.
- Naoe: Focus. Get to the kofun.
Naoe headed south towards the woods, where she caught sight of several of Nobunaga' soldiers investigating.
- Naoe: Don't fail me now, blade.
In order to avoid attracting attention, Naoe slid into the tall grasses by the road, assassinating them while using the grass as cover. Further up, she lay prone to the ground near the cliff to prevent detection. She then got up onto a log and from there, assassinated the soldier below. Having cleared the area, Naoe went further up the hill while following the footpath.
- Naoe: Don't stop. Just find the box.
After some time, she reached the outskirts of the kofun.
- Naoe: Father's counting on me.
Inside the tomb, she approached a door marked with an insignia she had not seen before. Seeing an opening in the middle of the symbol, she drew her Hidden Blade and placed it in the opening and twisted right. Soon after, the door opened.
- Naoe: (pants)
Inside, she found a red-colored chest on a pedestal and picked it up.
- Naoe: You're here. (gasps)
Just as she was about to leave, a hand reached out on the box and stopped her. Looking up, Naoe was greeted by a samurai wearing a white mask with golden carvings.
- Masked Samurai: (grunts)
The samurai tried to snatch the box away, losing his mask in the process.
- Naoe: (grunts)
Naoe tried to stop him but was pushed back. As she got up, the samurai took out his kanabō and swung it at Naoe's face, knocking her out cold.
- Masked Samurai: (breathes)
The samurai opened the box, witnessing the content within.
- Masked Samurai: With this, we rewrite our history.
The samurai's ashigaru guard called out from outside.
- Ashigaru Swordsman: Hurry! Someone's coming!
The samurai closed the box and left the kofun.
- Nagato: (breathes)
Nagato came into the tomb shortly after, finding the wounded but alive Naoe.
- Nagato: Naoe!
Nagato looked up and found the white masked on the ground.
- Nagato: I got you.
He picked Naoe up and left the kofun.
- Nagato: (grunts)
Nagato then got into his horse, placing Naoe in front of him. After some time, Naoe barely regained conscious.
- Nagato: You're alive.
- Naoe: Father...
- Nagato: Rest, my plum. I've got you.
- Naoe: The box... I couldn't stop him.
- Nagato: I should not have put you there... my oath... so many secrets... the Jewel...
- Naoe: The box...
- Nagato: Your... mother...
- Naoe: My mother...
- Nagato: ...so much like her... never saw her again. If we can just reach Tomiko's, there is hope. She will help us.
Following a long journey, Nagato and Naoe arrived at Tomiko's home. There, Nagato collapsed, having suffered an arrow wound to his back. Tomiko rushed forward to check on them. After some time, Naoe regained conscious and got up.
- Naoe: Father! (winces)
She looked around and saw a lady who had just finished checking on her father. The lady then went to sit beside Naoe.
- Tomiko: I'm Tomiko. Your father brought you here. I'm surprised he made it in his condition. He fell into a dead sleep after dragging you in. There will be some hard days ahead, but he'll live. You can sit up. How's the rest of you?
- Naoe: Nothing's broken. I can move. I can fight.
Naoe tries to get up despite obviously in pain.
- Tomiko: Fight? I didn't fix you up just so you can bleed again.
- Naoe: I have to go. I lost something very important to my father. I must get it back.
Tomiko stood up to properly talk to Naoe.
- Tomiko: Lost? What?
- Naoe: I can't tell you.
- Tomiko: Nagato has his secrets and I look the other way. It's best for us both.
- Naoe: You know my father well. And my mother?
- Tomiko: Less well.
- Naoe: I've lost too much time. I've got to go.
Naoe turns to leave the house, but was questioned by Tomiko.
- Tomiko: Go? Go where? Do you even know where to start looking?
- Naoe: Then help me.
- Tomiko: Tell me what you can. How did you come to lose this thing?
- Naoe: There was a man, in armor. A samurai? He came up behind me. I was careless.
- Tomiko: What did he look like?
- Naoe: It was dark... he wore a mask...
- Tomiko: Many samurai do. Can you describe it?
- Naoe: It was pale... like an onyro (ghost). I think father grabbed it from him?
- Tomiko: It might be among Nagato's things. I put them aside when I dressed his wounds.
Naoe went through her father's belongings and sure enough, was able to find the mask inside.
- Naoe: This is it.
Naoe showed the mask to Tomiko.
- Tomiko: I've seen one like it. Years ago...
- Naoe: What does it mean? Who is behind it?
- Tomiko: I'm not certain, but you should go to Katano. There's a connection there.
- Naoe: I'll take my father's horse. I could reach the castle tonight.
- Tomiko: And what will you do if you find your samurai?
- Naoe: What I should've done at the tomb. Take his life and take back what's ours.
- Tomiko: See that you do.
Naoe took her leave, looking back at her father before she does so.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Naoe failed to retrieve the box that was hidden in the Mihata Kofun, which was then stolen by a masked samurai. She was brought by Nagato to a lady named Tomiko, who tended to both of their injuries. She and Tomiko were able to roughly pinpoint Katano as the samurai's location.
