Tsuyu (c. 1542 – aft. 1564) was a Japanese Assassin, the wife of Fujibayashi Nagato and the mother of Fujibayashi Naoe. She was a founding member of the Kakushiba ikki as the first recruit and apprentice of Alvaro Catarribera, and led the organization following her mentor's death, until her own passing sometime after giving birth to Naoe.
Biography
Early life
In 1549, a young Tsuyu was found in an injured and starved state by Alvaro Catarribera, a Spanish Assassin who had been excommunicated from his Brotherhood and had come to Nagasaki while following a trail of Templars. The Assassin sought to locate allies in order to combat the Templars and, seeing potential in the young girl, took her under his wing, training her in the ways of the Brotherhood.[2]
Meeting Masayasu
In 1560, Tsuyu, now an Assassin apprentice, accompanied Catarribera to Iga, looking for new recruits for their brotherhood, the Kakushiba ikki.[1] After her mentor reminded her of their mission from the late Emperor Go-Nara[1] to safeguard the three Imperial Regalia,[3] and joked about her befriending the shinobi Hattori Hanzō, who was around her age, the ever-stoic Tsuyu performed a Leap of Faith off a cliff.[1]
Later, she observed a duel between Hanzō and Fujibayashi Masayasu, a young farmer who had attempted to protect his village from corrupt samurai. Masayasu ultimately emerged victorious after resorting to underhanded tactics, and Hanzō's mentor Momochi Sandayu, having spoken with Catarribera, who sensed Masayasu's potential, decided to train him as a shinobi. As Masayasu departed the village to meet with Sandayu and Hanzō and commence his training, an intrigued Tsuyu watched him from afar.[1]
Later life
Tsuyu eventually married Masayasu, who became known as Fujibayashi Nagato, and together they had a daughter, Naoe. Around this time, Tsuyu succeeded Catarribera as leader of the Kakushiba ikki and continued her mentor's mission to safeguard the Imperial Regalia and expand the brotherhood. In time, Nagato, Sandayu, and Hanzō all joined the Kakushiba ikki and,[3] following Tsuyu's death, vowed to continue protecting the Imperial Regalia.[4]
