Fujibayashi Naoe (藤林 奈緒江; born c. 1564)[1] was a kunoichi from Iga. Born to the jōnin[2] Fujibayashi Nagato in the midst of the Sengoku period, she was trained by him to become his equal in battle and later became a member of the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins. In 1581, Oda Nobunaga's forces invaded Iga.[3] Although Oda's retainer Yasuke was a participant of the attack, Naoe later became allied with him.[4]

Personality and traits

Naoe is a very intense, passionate and determined woman. All traits she has adopted from her fathers teachings of morals.[5]

Equipment and skills

Due to being trained by her father who was a skilled shinobi, Naoe was capable of wielding a variety of weapons including; Katanas, Tanto daggers, Kunai knives, Shuriken and Kusarigama.[6] Aswell as normal weapons Naoe also possesed a pivot blade, a hidden Blade capable of turning 90 degrees to form a small dagger. Naoe used her blade as a side arm in combination with her tanto to perform double assassination.[4]

In her arsinal she possesed several tools to aid her in missions such as Smoke bombs. Due to her small size and weight in comparison to her ally Yasuke she was able to make use a of a Grappling hook that let her scale buildings with ease.[6]

Her armor and clothes represent the path of a shinobi, shes very lightly armored and wears a dark blue kimono tied close to her arms so she can more easily parkour freely. Her armor consists of shin and forearm guards and a small bit of chainmail on her left arm.[6]

Behind the scenes

Fujibayashi Naoe is a fictional character who will appear in the 2024 video game Assassin's Creed: Shadows, where she is voiced by the Japanese actress Masumi Tsunoda.
