The Swedish Brotherhood of Assassins is the guild of Assassins located in Sweden. It was formed sometime in the 10th century as a branch of the Hidden Ones, being one of the last known branches to be established before the Order's public reformation as the Assassins.

Viking Age[edit | edit source]
By the second half of the 10th century, the Hidden Ones had established a presence in Sweden. Regarding King Olof Björnsson's rule over the country as tyrannical, the Hidden Ones secretly poisoned him around 975. The Brotherhood's Mentor, Torgny the Lawspeaker, then used his influence to ensure that the late king's brother, Eric, succeeded him and not Eric's nephew Styrbjörn, whom the Hidden Ones feared would become another tyrant like his father. After Eric's coronation, Styrbjörn, feeling robbed of his birthright, left Sweden but vowed to return one day and depose "The Usurper".[1]
By 985, Torgny had secured a position as King Eric's closest advisor, while his apprentice, Thorvald Hjaltason, also formed part of the king's court as a royal skald. Learning that Styrbjörn was amassing an army to invade Sweden and overthrow Eric, the Hidden Ones suspected that the prince and his ally, King Harald Bluetooth, were supported by the Templars. Thus, they resolved to stop them,[1] and Thorvald was sent to weaken the enemy army by assassinating the Templars among its ranks.[2]
With the help of several of King Eric's men, including a farmer and warrior named Östen Jorundsson, Thorvald waged a guerrilla war against Styrbjörn's forces, laying traps and conducting night raids on their camps to deprive the soldiers of sleep.[3] Thorvald also personally killed Styrbjörn's second-in-command Palnatoke, the leader of the Jomsvikings, durin one of the raids.[4] This demoralized Styrbjörn's army ahead of the Battle of Fýrisvellir, where the invaders were ultimately defeated by King Eric's forces.[5]
Ahead of the battle, Thorvald managed to recover the Devotion Prong of the Trident of Eden, which Styrbjörn had seized from Harald Bluetooth and used as a gift to the gods on the night of his wedding to Harald's daughter Thyra.[6] Following Styrbjörn's death at Östen's hands, Thorvald gave the prong to Östen and trusted him to hide it somewhere safe.[5]
Age of Enlightenment[edit | edit source]
In 1738, the Assassins started using the Swedish Levant Company as a cover for their operations.[7]
In 1748, the Swedish Assassins were asked by Achilles Davenport, Mentor of the Colonial Brotherhood, to build a brig in order to fight the Templars across the Atlantic Ocean. At that time however, King Frederick I was building his navy with the funding of King George II of Great Britain in Stockholm's dockyard. Thus, the Assassins could not accept, since the dockyard was full of Templar agents, and instead recommended that the French Brotherhood construct the ship,[7] which could come to be known as the Aquila.[8]
