The Saisesha were a short-lived samurai-trained militia founded by Japanese Templar and daimyō Kimura Kei during the late Sengoku period. Its foundation was made for the sole purpose to be the military for the Templars in Japan and to oust their foreign partners.
History[edit | edit source]
By 1582, after joining the Templar Order, Kei grew distrustful and harbored ill will with his foreign brothers Nuno Caro and Duarte de Melo. Thus, he began to recruit any fighter, rōnin or foreign, and train a new army to go against Caro and de Melo. Within time, he authorized his daughter and Templar Yukari to train his army,[1] as she was his first student.[2] To keep an eye and protect her, he also had his right-hand man Imagawa Tomeji become her personal guard.[3]
Setting up his base at Hibuse Fudo Temple, Kei began his training while he delegated the recruitment to his associate Kumabe Ujiie. However, his work and training took notice of the samurai and Kakushiba ikki member Yasuke. Upon meeting Ujiie at Okunoin, Yasuke discovered Kei's training grounds at the temple and gained entrance there. When Kei caught sight of Yasuke, he ordered all invitees to kill Yasuke. While Yasuke killed all of them, he later came across three Saisesha warriors protecting Kei. Despite their prowess, they all fell to Yasuke, who confronted their master. Ultimately, Kei was defeated and killed by Yasuke.[1]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
After Kei's[1] and Nuno Caro's deaths,[4] Yukari, along with Tomeji, moved their operation and forces to Awaji. There, she became the daimyō's concubine. When the daimyō and his soldiers left the island for a call to fight, Yukari soon took control as the de facto leader[5] and enforced her will through her own criminal collective, the Sanzoku Ippa.[6]
