Iwaya Castle

Iwaya Castle was a castle located in the northern part of the Eshima Coast in Awaji, Japan.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1585, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe, Fujibayashi Tsuyu and Yasuke enacted their plan against the Japanese Templar Kimura Yukari. While Naoe infiltrated the castle grounds and burned down the barricades, Yasuke, along with Hattori Hanzō and their ashigaru allies then launched their assault. Meanwhile, Tsuyu secretly infiltrated to take back the sword Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the Imperial Regalia of Japan, from Yukari's possession. Defeating all the Sanzoku Ippa samurai and soldiers in their way, Yasuke and Hanzō met up with Naoe as they planned their next steps.[1]
At the tenshu, Naoe planned to find and aid her mother in their recovery of the Regalia, Hanzō promised to guard Yasuke and Naoe from any incoming troops, while Yasuke climbed the tenshu to locate Yukari. Atop the top floor, Yasuke came upon a warrior and demanded to find Yukari, only to be surprised to see Yukari in her armor. Yukari admitted that her father trained her, boasting about being his best student. When Yasuke offered a chance to die honorably, Yukari rebuffed the offer, shared her elation over her fallen taishō, and admitted that with the sword, she will be solely in charge.[1]
Readying her naginata, Yasuke unsheathed his blade and started to fight against Yukari. After a lengthy fight, Yukari was defeated but commented that Yasuke and his actions will fade and be a shadow before succumbing to her injuries. Before leaving, he recovered Yukari's mask and armor from her personal effects.[1]
Meanwhile, Naoe searched the castle grounds after the assault for her mother and the Regalia. Finding a trail of dead soldiers and samurai to a hut in the western end, she determined that Tsuyu found the sword but fled the castle towards the shore. Worried, Naoe followed the trail of dead bodies in hopes of finding her mother. At the shores west of the castle, she saw her mother overwhelmed by the guards. Naoe ultimately saved her and recovered the sword Regalia from Templars' hands.[2]
After Naoe and Tsuyu returned all three Regalia to Emperor Ōgimachi,[2] Naoe and Yasuke returned and infiltrated the castle again, eliminated its four samurai daisho, and acquired the ōdachi Heron's Flight from the castle's treasure chest. They later climbed atop the tenshu and surveyed the land.[3]
