Akechi Mitsuhisa (died 1582) was a Japanese samurai and member of the Akechi clan during the late Sengoku period.

Biography[edit | edit source]

By the 1570s, Mitsuhisa was in charge of Tamba under his uncle Akechi Mitsuhide's discretion. However, Mitsuhisa abused his power by oppressing the local population and forcefully taking a share of silver from Tamba's mines. His corruption did not go unnoticed as the Kakushiba ikki member Fubuki helped the locals fight against his forces. One day, Mitsuhisa and his men confronted Fubuki in Ikuno, where they managed to overwhelm her, with Mitsuhisa personally delivering the killing blow.[1]

Yagoro, inspired by Fubuki's actions and sacrifice, later sought to complete her work in Tamba and began to train like her, even making his own Hidden Blade. By 1582, he met with the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke, who agreed to aid him in accomplishing his mission and welcomed him into their league.[2] Together, they all ventured to Fukuchiyama Castle to confront Mitsuhisa and found him surrounded by four guards.[1]

Bested, Mitsuhisa fell to his knees as Yagoro confronted him. Remembering Yagoro, Mitsuhisa chastized him for being small and a poor choice as his people's protector. Angered, Yagoro used his Hidden Blade to stab and kill Mitsuhisa, ending his corrupt rule over the province.[1]
