Yamana Kihei was a Japanese umbrella merchant who operated in Kyoto, Yamashiro during the 16th century.
Biography
As one of Kyoto's principal umbrella purveyor, Kihei has claimed to have sold umbrellas to the city's most fashionable residents. In 1582, Kihei's business was affected when Takahashi Saburo of the Takahashi clan caused nuisance and kept knocking his cart over, forcing him to move his cart to west of Nijo Palace. At this point, he began hearing stories regarding Saburo's own family being put through cruel training and suffering. Wishing for someone to handle, Kihei shared his woe to Ujimasa, who was based at the Kiyomizudera Temple in the west of the city.[1]
To that end, Ujimasa sent Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke to assist in dealing with Saburo and the rogue samurai problem. Kihei told them a brief of the Takahashi clan problems and then to confront their family guard as a start to deal with the problem.[1]
