The Valley Yamabushi (died 1582) was a Japanese soldier who served under Oda Nobunaga. Along with eight fellow soldiers, he pretended to be a yamabushi during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

After the Tenshō Iga War, Lord Oda Nobunaga created a group of nine soldiers to dress and patrol as yamabushi, who were tasked to locate and kill any remaining Igan soldiers. However, these soldiers became more callous and devious, killing any innocents in their way.[1]

In 1582, yamabushi Genpaku met with Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke about these false monks. Naoe and Yasuke agreed to help by tracking and hunting down these perpetrators. Following Genpaku's lead, Naoe investigated a cabin near Hinotani Shrine in Iga, where there were rumors of trouble nearby.[1]

Arriving at the cabin, Naoe and Yasuke confronted the imposter and assassinated him. They then retrieved the kanabō Mountain Bearer from the imposter's personal effects.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Valley Yamabushi may be killed by Naoe for securing Matsu a new home and saving the cabin's residents during the mission "The Monk's Wake."
