They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Yuki no Kata.

Yuki no Kata was a Japanese onna-musha during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

By 1582, Yuki had grown up to be a formidable fighter with her naginata and challenged master swordsmen and warriors across Japan to learn from them. In Harima, she came across a naginata master and student of Kamiizumi Nobutsuna, Tomita Nobutaka, at the Ishi no Hōden shrine. Easily, she bested him in combat and made an impression on the officer. Afterwards, she began searching for Yasuke, the "Dragon from Beyond the Sea", hoping to challenge him.[1]

Fortunately, the Kakushiba ikki member arrived soon after and found a wounded Nobutaka near the shrine. After being directed to Yuki no Kata, she and Yasuke discussed their goals and agreed to duel each other. Yasuke managed to best her, whereupon the two warriors thanked each other for the experience and Yuki no Kata gifted her opponent a naginata, the Celestial Blade.[1]

As Yasuke took his leave, Yuki no Kata was approached by Nobutaka, who boldly professed his love for her. Although he apologized for his poor flirting skills, Yuki no Kata was nonetheless won over by his charm and invited him to pray to the shrine together.[1]

Behind the scenes

Yuki no Kata is the only duelist in the memory "Nobutsuna's Students" that was not a student of Nobutsuna but managed to best one before dueling Yasuke.[1] While she is historically attested to have participated in the Battle of Sekigahara, her actual name has been lost to history.[2]

Historically, Yuki no Kata was the daughter of Ukita Hideie and his first wife Gōhime.[2] However, as Hideie was only 10 years old at the time of Assassin's Creed: Shadows' events in 1582, Yuki no Kata's inclusion in the game is anachronistic.
