Hori Hidemasa (堀 秀政; 1553 – 28 June 1590) was Oda Nobunaga's samurai retainer. After Oda Nobunaga's death, he later transferred his position under Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Biography

By 1582, Hidemasa had been part of Lord Oda Nobunaga's army,[1] but after the incident at Honnō-ji and Nobunaga's subsequent death,[2] he was later found new employment under Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. However, from his investigation, he later found out that the traitor Akechi Mitsuhide had assistance from traitors of the Oda clan and vowed to end them.[1]

At Mildera, Hidemasa soon met with former Oda retainer and Kakushiba ikki member Yasuke and discussed his findings. Hidemasa soon tasked him and his fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe to track down and assassinate these betrayers.[1]

However, Hidemasa was soon told of urgent information being held by one of the targets, Endo Tomoyasu, who was hiding in Kii. The information detailed of sensitive information between him and Lord Nobunaga. Wasting no time, he tracked down Tomoyasu to Kongobuji Temple and killed him. He was soon spotted by Naoe and Yasuke, who told him to leave as soon as possible. Back at Mildera, Hidemasa explained his presence in Kii and then gave more information about the traitors to Yasuke.[1]

After killing all of his targets, Yasuke returned back to Hidemasa and informed him that all the traitors had been dealt with and their mission had concluded. Thanking him for his help, Hidemasa gifted the samurai his helmet before bidding him farewell.[1]
