Baltazar (died 1582) was a Portuguese soldier under the Portuguese Templar Nuno Caro's command.

Biography

In 1582, Baltazar, along with Caro's men, was placed on duty to guard the captive Akechi Mitsuyoshi at Kameyama Castle to ensure his sister Hosokawa Tama's compliance with Caro's demand for silver. With Mitsuyoshi as his captive, he soon took the family katana away from Mitsuyoshi and left the boy in his cell while he stationed himself at the castle's courtyard.[1]

However, the Kakushiba ikki member and samurai Yasuke came and rescued Mitsuyoshi to meet his sister Tama at Atago Shrine. Yet, the young Akechi mentioned that Baltazar had his katana, to which Yasuke escorted him from the castle before going back to confront Baltazar. Finding him and his men in the courtyard, Yasuke fought against Baltazar and his fellow soldiers and ultimately killed them. Yasuke then acquired the Akechi clan katana and an amulet Howl of the Dragon from Baltazar's personal effects before leaving for the Atago Shrine.[1]
