Kacho (died 1582) was a Japanese criminal and the leader of a child-abduction ring located in Osaka.

Biography

A disturbed woman, Kacho had kidnapped a local baby girl and raised her as her own, despite the girl never becoming close to her. Meanwhile, she led her fellow kidnappers Richo, Shucho and Mucho to abduct children from wealthy businesspeople in order to seize control of their trades. Her "adopted" daughter, however, saw an opportunity to be free from Kacho's criminal ways and attempted to expose her operations.[1]

In 1582, the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe found notes during a game of collecting paper butterflies. The notes illuminated Kacho's plan and the locations of her co-conspirators, resulting in their deaths at Naoe's hands. From her investigation, Naoe determined that the paper used for butterflies had been bought by a wealthy woman, leading her to the Nishinomaru Garden, west of Osaka Castle.[1]

At the garden, Naoe confronted Kacho, who blamed her daughter for being too weak to follow her orders. Kacho ultimately died by the kunoichi's hand but not before revealing that the woman who had sent Naoe was part of her criminal enterprise.[1]

Personality and traits

Kacho wielded dual tantōs as her main weapons.[2]
