Isono Kazumasa (died 1582) was a Japanese samurai who was situated at Ōmizo Castle during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

In 1582, Isono Kazumasa held a position at Ōmizo Castle and learned about Sugitani Zenjūbō's teppō, which he retrieved after Lord Oda Nobunaga's death. Keeping it at the castle, Kazumasa and his men were soon disturbed by Zenjūbō's student Rokkaku Katsuhime, who came to retrieved her mentor's teppō. However, Katsuhime was cornered while Kazumasa fired a shot into her knee. Before delivering the final shot, he came under attack by her ally and Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe. Overwhelmed, Kazumasa was killed while Naoe retrieved a teppō from his personal effects and rescued Katsuhime.[1]

Behind the scenes

Historically, Kazumasa was once part of the Azai clan but defected to the Oda clan after Nagamasa killed his mother in retaliation for Kazumasa losing Sawayama Castle to the Oda clan. In his later life, he lived as a priest until his death in 1583.[2]
