Toro (died 1582), also known as The Shinobi, was a Japanese bounty hunter and ninja who worked for a group that served Wada Koretake. After Koretake's death, he and his fellow bounty hunters moved to Kii and continued their criminal endeavors.
Biography[edit | edit source]
By 1582, Toro and his fellow bounty hunters worked with the Shinbakufu member Wada Koretake.[1] After Koretake fell at the hands of Kyonyo and the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe,[2] Toro and his fellow bounty hunters traveled to Kii to continue their incursions. However, when Kyonyo arrived with the remnants of the Ikkō-ikki in Kii, they all used this opportunity for revenge for Koretake.[1]
Toro ventured through Koyasan while looking for Kyonyo's secret contact. Searching for his target, he managed to track two monk guards and killed one as a warning to the other monks. His actions were noticed by the Kakushiba ikki members Naoe and Yasuke, who visited under Kyonyo's advice. Learning that the head monk was the contact, Toro planned to strike him at night at his house at the Monks' District.[1]
However, Naoe and Yasuke planned to trap Toro by keeping the home dark to strike upon his arrival. When Toro came to kill the head monk, the duo confronted and assassinated Toro. They then acquired the bow Call of Koyasan from Toro's personal effects and headed back to meet with Kyonyo to discuss their plans against the bounty hunters' leader Tsuchi-Gumo.[1]
