"Taka Nyudo" (died 1582) was the name imposed on a Japanese monk who traversed through Tamba during the late Sengoku period. His appearance and behavior made many locals believe that he was actually the yōkai known as the Taka Nyudo (高入道, lit. 'tall priest').[1]

The locals of Tamba heard the whispers and rumors of a tall, beastly monk wreaking havoc across the province. This led them to travel to the monk-turned-demon hunter Mamushi for help. However, Mamushi was fed up with investigating these yōkai claims as they always turned out to be exaggerations of people's imaginations.[1]
In 1582, Mamushi met the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke and asked them to investigate several yōkai rumors. During their investigation in Tamba, they arrived at Kabasaka Village and discovered the "Taka Nyudo" holding a few villagers hostage, among them a woman named Chitose, whom he blamed for his recent losses.[1]
Confronting the man, Naoe and Yasuke fought and promptly killed the tall monk. Afterwards, they spoke with Chitose, who informed them that she was planning to meet with Mamushi. Before they departed, they acquired the kanabō Tail of the Beast from the monk's personal effects.[1]
