Akira of Koga (died 1582), also known as the Godai of Earth, was a Japanese shinobi and a former student of the Rokkaku clan's patriarch, Rokkaku Yoshikata.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Formerly part of an elite class of the Kōga-ryū ninjutsu school, Akira and his fellow shinobi left their mentor Yoshikata after the downfall of the Kōga-ryū. Under Rokkaku Yoshimitsu's leadership, the group soon became known as the Godai Shinobi. They then forged an alliance with the Shinbakufu, who ordered them to murder the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe, Yasuke, and Rokkaku Katsuhime.[1]
In 1582, after the Kakushiba ikki helped Yoshikata eliminate the Shinbakufu member Akechi Kagemitsu, he gave Naoe a list of his fallen students who were wreaking havoc across Japan, trusting her to end their machinations.[2] Following a clue about Akira's location, Naoe and Yasuke traveled to Kuroda Village in Iga and met with a local blacksmith. There, they learned that Akira had become his apprentice, how he was sought after by Ashigaru, and his current location at an abandoned camp north of the village.[1]
Traveling to the camp, Naoe and Yasuke saw dead Ashigaru soldiers on their path before spotting Akira chopping wood. Confronting him, they assassinated Akira and retrieved the tantō Rooted Thrust from his personal effects.[1]
