The Shadow Yamabushi was a Japanese soldier who served under Oda Nobunaga. Along with eight fellow soldiers, he masked himself as a yamabushi during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

Following the Tenshō Iga War, Lord Nobunaga ordered a group of nine soldiers to dress and patrol as yamabushi. Their mission was to locate and kill any remaining Igan soldiers who survived the war. However, all these soldiers became more hazardous and violent, killing any innocent in their way.[1]

In 1582, yamabushi Genpaku spoke with Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke about these false monks. Both members agreed to help by hunting down these perpetrators. Following Genpaku's lead, they investigated the Otogi Pass in Iga and found a yamabushi surveying atop a cliff overlooking Kasuga Shrine. Arriving at his camp, they confronted the imposter and assassinated him. They later retrieved the kusarigama, Yomi's Retribution, from the imposter's personal effects.[1]
