Tanba
Tanba (丹波) was a province of Japan constituting the area of present-day central Kyoto and east-central Hyōgo Prefectures.[1]
In the 1580s, the samurai Yasuke, a retainer of daimyō Oda Nobunaga, visited the province alongside the kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe.[2]
Behind the scenes
On the map included in the promotional material for Assassin's Creed: Shadows the province is spelled Tamba. The difference in spelling is due to which version of Hepburn romanization is used. In the traditional the syllabic 〈n〉 (ん) is instead romanized as an 〈m〉 when preceding a 〈b〉, 〈m〉, or 〈p〉 however in the more modern modified system it is retained as an 〈n〉.
