The Shinbafuku, also known as the Hundred Demons (百鬼衆) and referred by Naoe as the Onryo (怨霊), was an influential organization founded by the former and last shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate, Yoshiaki, to reclaim his power and rebuild the shogunate. To this end, he had two primary objectives: to steal the three Imperial Regalia and to depose of Oda Nobunaga, the warlord who caused his downfall and the decline of his influence.[1]
To this end, Yoshiaki also sold information on the Regalia to the Portugese Templars, seeking to use them as insurance in exchange for money and power to fund his activities.[1]The Shinbafuku came to be opposed by the Kakushiba Ikki, a branch of the Templar's archenemy, the Assassins, who were taked by the Japanese Emperor to safeguard the artifacts. While they succeeded in destroying the group, they were ultimately hunted down by the Iga kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe, an inheritor of the Kakushiba Ikki's ideals, and the samurai Yasuke, the loyal retainer of Nobunaga.[2]
