| They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Sen. This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias. |
Sen was a pirate active during Sengoku period Japan. He gained a name for himself by pillaging and terrorizing the coasts of Wakasa. In 1582, Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke were tasked with eliminating all members of the Pirate Alliance, including Sen. His fate after meeting the members of the Kakushiba ikki is unknown, but most probably they spared his life.[1]
Biography
Sen was a well known pirate in the region of Wakasa, being part of the dreadful Pirate Alliance that terrorized the region. He had a wife which constantly begged him to leave that life, but Sen never listened to her. At some point, his wife died in unknown circumstances, with Sen declaring that his foolishness was at fault for it. After that, Sen decided to retire from the pirate life, retreating to the small village of Yura on northern Tamba.[2]
Encounter with Naoe and Yasuke
In 1582, Shidō put a bounty on all the Pirate Alliance members, with Naoe and Yasuke going after all of them and eventually reaching Yura. By then, Sen had acquired a fame of being a good man in the small village, helping the village by fishing for them and with both the children and the adults taking a liking to him. He even threw his old weapons in a chest on the nearby coast, signaling that he had abandoned his previous life. Sen then met either Naoe or Yasuke, with the Kakushiba ikki members questioning him about what he was doing. After seeing that Sen really wanted to leave his pirate life behind and help the people of Yura, they forgave Sen and leaved him to live a peaceful life on Yura.[2]
Behind the scenes
Sen is one of the objectives on the mission The Pirate Alliance. After reaching him, the player can talk to him, at which point he will tell the player that he has reformed and no longer wants to be a pirate, hoping to be a good person and asking for forgiveness. The player has the choice to either forgive him or to declare that piracy is unforgivable and fight him. If playing on canon mode, there is no choice possible and Sen is always forgiven, which means that in the real timeline Sen did survive the encounter and kept helping the village.
The conversation can be bypassed even in canon mode if, instead of talking to him, the player decides to attack Sen, at which point he will become hostile and the player will be forced to kill him.
