Sato Katsubei (died 1582) was a Japanese samurai and retainer who served under Oda Nobunaga.
Biography
In 1582, Sato Katsubei was bribed by a representative of Akechi Mitsuhide to sit out of the attack on Oda Nobunaga. Taking the bribe, he claimed an injury and stood aside on the night of Lord Nobunaga's death.[1]
Some time after the incident, former retainer to Nobunaga, Hori Hidemasa, met with Kakushiba ikki member and former retainer Yasuke about these traitors. Yasuke, along with fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe, agreed to help hunt down these traitors.[1]
From Hidemasa's intel, Naoe and Yasuke traveled to Yamazaki Castle and discovered Katsubei residing within the northeastern section. Confronting him, they promptly assassinated Katusbei and retrieved the teppō Roaring Infamy and the bribery letter from his personal effects.[1]
