Kashiwabara Fortress was a fortress overrun by bandits in western Ōmi, Japan.
History
In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke arrived at the fortress after being misled by their colleague Rufino about the true location of the "Architect" and the "Scholar." There, they caught Rufino arguing with his friend Ermigo about how he was used for intel about the targets and it was revealed that Ermigo was the "Scholar". Confronting them, Yasuke accused Rufino of lying to them while Rufino stated that Ermigo is his friend before they each readied their weapons.[1]
Coming out of the tower nearby, Gaspar, the "Architect", blamed Ermigo for being followed and ordered his men to kill Rufino first. However, Ermigo stepped in front of the bullet and saved Rufino while Naoe used a smoke bomb instantly. Along with Rufino, Naoe and Yasuke fought against Gaspar and his men and successfully killed all of them. On the ground, Ermigo wished that Rufino could have joined their cause before dying. Realizing what he had lost, Naoe and Yasuke forgave Rufino and offered him a place in their league, to which he accepted. Upon leaving, they retrieved a letter from Gaspar's personal effects about his superiors' plans for Japan.[1]
At another time, Naoe and Yasuke infiltrated the bandit-infested fortress again, eliminated its samurai daisho, and acquired the naginata Time-Honored Crescent from one of the fortress' chests. They later found another chest and recovered the kusarigama Featherstorm. They later climbed atop the watchtower and surveyed the province.[2]
