They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Contractor.

This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias.

The Contractor (died 1582) was a Japanese criminal hired by the Japanese Rite of the Templar Order during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

In 1582, the Contractor and his fellow killers worked under their leader and local Templar Gaspar, who went by the cryptonym The Architect. Pooling together their investigation, they chose influential targets around the provinces of Ōmi and Izumi Settsu to better control their respective towns and villages. Aboard a ship off the coast of Sakai, the Contractor took their research and assisted in giving out contracts to his cohorts.[1]

However, one of his co-conspirators, Rufino, a Portuguese translator, became aware of the reality of the situation and ran to his old associate and friend Tomiko at her homestead. There, he gave information about the ship near Sakai to her and her fellow Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke, who agreed to help him investigate.[1]

When Naoe and Yasuke climbed aboard the ship and destroyed the research, the Contractor saw and incapacitated Rufino, who followed his allies. However, Naoe and Yasuke rescued Rufino and killed the Contractor and his men. From the Contractor's personal effects, they discovered that contracts were still sent out and their orders from the Architect with the red Templar cross. Naoe and Yasuke promised to stop these contracts while Rufino left to regroup back at the homestead.[1]
