"Without fanfare. Without warning. Without thought. That is the essence of my style. One simple killing stroke."

Itō Ittōsai

Itō Ittōsai Kagehisa (伊藤 一刀斎 景久; c. 1560 – 1653) was a Japanese swordsman attributed with founding the Ittō-ryū school of kenjutsu.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In his early years, Ittōsai spent time honing his skill in kata around the Kansai region in locales by water such as the Tsuruga Port Overlook in Wakasa and on the outskirts of the port town Shiotsu in Ōmi. The rōnin Yasuke sought him out at these locations to learn kata from him, to which Ittōsai obliged.[1]
