Yasuke
Yasuke (Japanese: 弥助 or 弥介) was an African servant to Oda Nobunaga near the end of the Sengoku period. Brought over by the Portuguese Empire as a slave in 1579,[1] he later attained the rank of samurai and participated in a raid against Fujibayashi Naoe's village in Iga Province, before eventually joining the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins.[2]
Behind the scenes
Yasuke is a historical figure who appears in the 2024 video game Assassin's Creed: Shadows, where he is voiced by the Zimbabwean actor Tongayi Chirisa. His character is unique in the Assassin's Creed series for being the first real person that players can control as a main protagonist. This is a shift from earlier games, where players would meet renowned people as non-player characters in a protagonist's adventures as seen in every other media.
