Murakami Norimasa was a monk and a member of the Iga ikki during the 16th century.
Biography
As one of the senior members of the league, Norimasa had presided over many assemblies at the Aekuni Shrine, where the Iga shinobi would gather to renew their vows to the ikki. On 30 September 1581, Norimasa led the assembly as usual, with the addition of newcomer Fujibayashi Naoe, the daughter of the jōnin Nagato.[1]
Early on during the assembly, their meeting was interrupted by the arrival of Hattori Hanzō, who had returned to Iga after a long absence, during which he entered the service of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Norimasa welcomed Hanzō to the meeting, whereupon the latter announced that Oda Nobunaga was leading an army to invade Iga alongside the Koga ikki, with the invasion being on a far larger scale than the previous one in 1579.[1]
Norimasa and his fellow Igans later bore witness to a duel fought between Naoe and Fujita Juro, when the latter questioned Naoe's worthiness as a warrior of the league. After Naoe defeated Juro, Norimasa and the Igans returned to continue their assembly, renewing their vows as they all agreed to stand against Nobunaga.[1]
