Kanta was a Japanese merchant who worked as a seafood vendor at the port in Ōtsu, Ōmi, during the 16th century.

Biography

By 1582, Kanta and other merchants had joined the Iron Hand Guild, whose leader, the Iron Hand, was exploiting the Imai name to steal business opportunities from the Imai clan. Kanta gave both his profits and wares of seafood to the guild as payment. Unfortunately, one of his trading ships was lost in Lake Biwa, being last seen near Okishima.[1]

The Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe, who was aiding Imai Sōkun to stop the Iron Hand Guild, went to find the missing ship. She found it wrecked and nearly salvaged by pirates on Okishima. Upon inspection, she discovered a list, which revealed that the ship had come from the port of Ōtsu.[1]

At the Rice Shipyard in the Otsu Upper District, Kanta was overseeing his wares while also checking on his records back home. Inspecting the area, Naoe acquired and read a letter to Kanta from the Iron Hand about making sure the shipment reached his associate in Tamba and no one else.[1]

Behind the scenes

Kanta may be killed or spared during the player's investigation. If spared, Kanta will later leave the Iron Hand Guild and begin working for Imai Sōkun as a captain of his merchant fleet.[1]
