The Iron Hand (died 1582) was a Japanese merchant and a rival of the Imai clan during the 16th century.
Biography
By 1582, the Iron Hand created his own guild by exploiting the Imai name to steal business opportunities from the Imai clan. Working at his base of operations in Fukuchiyama Castle, the Iron Hand assigned the merchants Kanta, Ginroku, Kin-no-suke, and Tamao to garner all the resources and finances through any means necessary. While aiming to control all the trade of silver and steel, he also started to learn the use of the tea ceremony to better business relationships.[1]
The Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe, who was aiding Imai Sōkun to stop the Iron Hand Guild, sought out all of the merchants and garnered all the clues to find the Iron Hand's location. Confronting the Iron Hand, Naoe ultimately assassinated him and acquired
the ōdachi Bloody Business from his personal effects.[1]
