Honnō-ji (本能寺) is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in the city of Kyoto, Japan. The temple is most notable for the incident that saw Oda Nobunaga's betrayal by Akechi Mitsuhide, one of his closest generals and a member of the Shinbakufu, forcing him to commit seppuku,[1] the event which came to be known as the Honnō-ji incident.[2]
