Hatakeyama Yoshimasa (畠山 義正) was a Japanese samurai who lived in Kyoto during the late-Sengoku period.

Biography

A member of the famed Hatakeyama clan from Yamashiro,[1] Yoshimasa had, like many other samurai, garnered a long-standing bitterness and reputation from the locals. After the Honnō-ji incident in June 1582 that saw the death of Oda Nobunaga, the city was thrown into chaos, which emboldened outlaws to commit crimes and attack civilians in the province. Some time after the incident, Yoshimasa encountered the Igan kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe and Nobunaga's former retainer Yasuke. He enlisted their help to assist in eliminating the bandits in Yamashiro for giving his reputation, he felt he might be seen as forcing order upon the locals. Naoe and Yasuke agreed and were in turn rewarded with money and resources.[2]
